Mena is one of the co-founders of HDTA. He is a behavior consultant, content strategist, and instructor for several award-winning dog training organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. He established Dog Party Dog Training in 2013, which offers dog training services like private coaching, group classes, and dog-sitting, as well as content strategy and copywriting for training-related articles, videos, educational programs, curricula, and marketing materials. He is the lead copywriter for Choose Positive Design and Media, an organization that specializes in developing user-focused online content for dog trainers, veterinarians, therapists, and other service providers who support using positive reinforcement and humane science-based methods. Mena has a background in creative writing and visual communication, so he enjoys translating scientific concepts into user-friendly language to bridge the gap between scientific findings and the practical application of applied animal behavior science. He has volunteered with many local community-based organizations, including Berkeley Humane Society, East Bay SPCA, Native Bird Connections, Contra Costa County Animal Services, and PALS East Bay.

Jennifer Phillips is a certified, professional animal trainer and the owner of Broadway Dog Training, LLC in Los Angeles, California. In her former career, Jennifer worked in a variety of positions for several of the top New York and Los Angeles entertainment law firms.  She has worked with private and public zoos as an exotic animal keeper, and various volunteer positions as educator and wildlife rehabilitator (including Bronx Zoo, California Wolf Center, Project Wildlife, California Wildlife Center, and the Los Angeles Zoo).  In 2010, Jennifer adopted two dogs from the East Valley Animal Shelter that challenged her to expand her training skills and delve deeper into behavior work.  After living in the Pacific Northwest and working for a veterinary behavior practice, Jennifer returned to Los Angeles with her two dogs, three African Grey Parrots, and two Green Aracaris (small Toucans). She specializes in working with on-leash reactivity, fear-based behavior issues, and creating a balanced dog through training, enrichment and conditioning.

Lawrence Padua

Laurence has a background working in fund cultivation and capacity building for community-based organizations. He has experience in business and curriculum development, project management, and community organizing. He currently works in Public Health, focusing on professional development, advancing internal learning communities, growing communication channels, and quality improvement.


He is an editor and author, and will be published in the forthcoming California Dreaming from University of Hawai’i Press. As a Rockefeller Fellow, he conducted research on the creative contributions of Filipinos in Hawai’i from the first wave of plantation workers to their descendants. He has a special place in his heart for senior dogs and toy breeds.

Anne Baranski

Anne is the owner of Forever Home Real Estate in Madison, WI.  As a broker and Realtor, Anne specializes in residential real estate and helping clients achieve their home ownership goals.  She functions as a mentor for new Realtors, passing her knowledge along to those who want to learn.  Anne is the recipient of the Realtor of the Year award in 2014, her rookie year, which is presented to the outstanding realtor for the previous year.  She is consistently ranked in the top 5% of the South Central Wisconsin MLS realtors in volume.

Anne’s love of business and real estate is only outstripped by her passion for “unadoptable” rescue dogs: those who are elderly, the chronically ill, those who are deaf, blind, or missing legs, the behaviorally challenged.  She and her husband currently have nine such amazing rescue dogs in their forever home, after which her real estate company is named.

Anne also serves on the Tellurian Celebrity Golf Outing board, the board for Sunshine Place’s Sunshine Ball, is a director of the Realtors Association of South Central Wisconsin, the RASCAW Budget Committee, the responsible director for the South Central Wisconsin Affordable Housing Committee, and sits on the Wisconsin Realtors Association Annual Convention Board.  Anne is also the Lifeguard Captain for Ironman Wisconsin and serves as a judge for National History Day in Wisconsin.

Anne has a Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University in English Literature and History.
